Juan Diego Flórez and Roberto González-Monjas: Music Transforming Lives

In celebration of World Music Day, we proudly present a compelling documentary featuring Juan Diego Flórez and Roberto González-Monjas, two luminaries in the world of classical music. This short documentary highlights their shared mission of using music as a powerful tool for social change and empowerment.

Empowering Through Music

Juan Diego Flórez, a world-renowned opera tenor celebrated for his exceptional bel canto technique, has dedicated his life not only to his outstanding career but also to transforming lives through music. He is the founder of Sinfonía por el Perú, a social initiative that provides music education to underprivileged children in Peru. "Music can change lives," says Flórez, emphasizing the transformative power of music, especially for children who are often neglected by society.

Roberto González-Monjas, an acclaimed violinist and conductor, echoes Flórez's sentiments. "Music is a metaphor for change, excellence, and humanity," he says. Through his work with Sinfonía por el Perú, González-Monjas inspires young musicians to look beyond the act of making music and understand its broader impact on their lives and communities.

A Shared Vision with the Hilti Foundation

At the Hilti Foundation, we recognize the profound impact of music as a catalyst for social change. Our commitment to fostering independence and self-determination aligns perfectly with the missions of Flórez and González-Monjas. Through our support of Sinfonía por el Perú, we aim to empower young people, providing them with opportunities to develop their talents and build a brighter future.

Our "Music for Social Change" program is designed to nurture confidence, foster social skills, and create pathways to better futures for children from all backgrounds. By enriching teaching methods and enhancing the capabilities of music educators through initiatives like the Academy for Impact through Music (AIM), we strive to extend the reach and deepen the impact of social music programs worldwide.

A Symphony of Transformation

For many of these young musicians, performing at Europe's most prestigious festivals is a life-changing experience, giving them a sense of accomplishment and a glimpse of a brighter future. "After a tour like this, they stop being children and become professionals," explains González-Monjas, underscoring the program's profound impact.

In the upcoming weeks, the Sinfonía por el Perú Youth Choir will take a significant step forward by competing in their first global competition, the Summa Cum Laude Youth Music Festival in Vienna. This prestigious event will not only showcase their talents on an international stage but also mark the beginning of their journey as professional musicians, demonstrating the transformative power of music.
