Guerilla Gardening: Youth Advocating for Biodiversity

Biodiversity is inspiring, and everyone can make a valuable contribution. Around 200 young people proved this with a guerilla gardening action in Schaan, despite the pouring rain. Flower seeds were scattered on designated areas to playfully draw attention to the theme of diversity—and, in this context, biodiversity.

Diversity in society and nature

The event took place as part of the SchulTHEATERtage of the Young Theater Liechtenstein in collaboration with primary schools and secondary schools from Liechtenstein. Under the motto 'Diverse,' creative projects were developed and performed.

Ready for an “supergute” guerilla action.

The topic refers to both the acceptance and promotion of diversity in society as well as in nature. With self-developed plays, dance and choir projects, and much more, a total of over 400 children and young people illuminated the topic of diversity from various perspectives.

Creativity in action

A special highlight of the three-day school theater days was the guerrilla gardening initiative, where students sowed flower seeds. This initiative not only serves to beautify the community but also raises awareness about the importance of biodiversity. Claudia Ospelt-Bossard, a certified nature gardener and supporter of our initiative "supergut”, supported the action as an expert and informed the youth about the significance of natural gardens in the context of climate change.

"Diversity means variety to me. Every person should be accepted, regardless of their skin color, religion, origin, or social status. It's like in nature, where many different animals and people live together. And of course, also plants."

 Commitment to more diversity

Despite gray rain clouds, the guerrilla gardening action was colorful. As colorful and diverse as nature itself. One thing was clear: biodiversity can be fun, and anyone can make a small but valuable contribution with little effort. A beautiful example of how creative ideas and concrete action can go hand in hand to bring about positive change.

The Hilti Foundation supports projects that give a voice to biodiversity and encourage participation with its initiative 'supergut'.
