Escape Room on Biodiversity in Liechtenstein

Only a few weeks left until the "supergut" escape room in Schaan opens its doors. Under the title "Die Jagd nach Dr. Mo No", both young and old can experience an exciting adventure centered around the theme of biodiversity, starting in September.

Making biological diversity tangible

A little over a year ago, the Hilti Family Foundation Liechtenstein had a vision: to create a place in Liechtenstein where the theme of biological diversity can be experienced in a playful way. Many conversations, brainstorming sessions, and ideas later, it became clear that a temporary escape room should be created.

We visited properties for interim use, sketched out stories and discarded them, brought in experts from various fields, and eventually brought ‘The Hunt for Dr. Mo No’ to life,
— recalls Michelle Kranz, Managing Director of the Hilti Family Foundation Liechtenstein

Currently, the team is in the midst of setting up the premises where Dr. Mo No wreaks havoc and where players can embark on a mission to save biodiversity. But there is still much to do before it opens in the former store in the heart of Schaan.

A diverse team has been working for months on developing the escape room. At the center of it all is Garry Frick, who coordinates everything.

Behind the scenes

A diverse team has been working for months on developing the escape room. Right in the middle of it all is Gerry Frick, who coordinates everything:

Implementing this project in co-creation with professionals from various fields, whether for experience staging, game design, or biodiversity, is already an experience in itself. Currently, electricians, carpenters, painters, and interior designers are working hand in hand to complete everything on time for the start in September.

Everything that involves construction or other craftsmanship on site in Schaan is handled by businesses from the immediate region. Short distances, sustainability, and resource efficiency are considered everywhere, especially for a theme like this. Some furnishing elements come from leftovers and second-hand shops.

Exciting mission on two floors

But what exactly awaits visitors in the 600 m2 experience room? The project managers don't want to reveal too much yet. Just this much: Those who go on the hunt for Dr. Mo No in Schaan will dive into a story and have to solve tricky tasks and puzzles, all related to the theme of biodiversity. An adventure world is currently being created, full of special effects and other surprises, and equipped with sophisticated technology.

"We are currently testing the technology that brings the game to life – a key moment for us," says Frick.

The escape room experts in the secret corridor 188, who are responsible for the entire game design and the technology behind it, are bringing the world of Dr. Mo No to life in Schaan together with local craft businesses.

Online booking portal

At supergut.li, brave adventurers can secure their game slot—as a team, family, or group of friends. Already during the preregistration phase for school classes, about 1,100 people have signed up. Due to the high interest, the duration has been extended from three months to six, now running until the end of February 2025. Gerry Frick also emphasizes the tremendous interest: “From the beginning, there was genuine enthusiasm and a cool team spirit among all involved. So far, we have received consistently positive feedback. Conveying the theme of biodiversity through such an innovative project like an escape room is a fantastic idea.”

And what does Michelle Kranz, Managing Director of the Hilti Family Foundation Liechtenstein, expect from the Biodiversity Escape Room?

“I hope for a real wow experience for all participants, bringing personal learning effects and leading to new perspectives and actions regarding biological diversity. Then our new, playful approach to this important topic will truly have been worthwhile.”
